SAN JOSE, Calif.– Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced a few weeks back that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Magento Commerce for $1.68 billion. This acquisition seems to follow a growing pattern where large technology companies who focus on enterprise clients acquire eCommerce platforms. What does this mean? Simply put, disparate solutions won’t cut it in a sophisticated and competitive marketplace and the big players know it.
This Acquisition is the fourth of its kind with respect to industry of acquisitioner and industry of acquisition.
Hybris and SAP
ATG and Oracle
DemandWare and Salesforce
Magento and Adobe
Speaking to the list above, this has been a long time coming. Retailers and merchants are in search of integrated platforms with vibrant innovative ecosystems around them. That is why Adobe’s move into the eCommerce Cloud space through Magento is such a no-brainer. Magento gives access to an experience cloud which offers pre-built extensions facilitated by more than 300,000 developers in their partnership ecosystem. Some of these services include:
This level of vendor diversity and flexibility allows companies of all sizes to thrive, pivot, and scale when the timing is right for their business.
“Adobe and Magento share a vision for the future of digital experiences that brings together Adobe’s strength in content and data with Magento’s open commerce innovation,” said Mark Lavelle, CEO, Magento. “We’re excited to join Adobe and believe this will be a great opportunity for our customers, partners and developer community.”
This trend of end to end facilitation is on the rise and not expected to slow down anytime soon. Companies understand that seamless connectivity between solutions is absolutely vital because they are playing an extremely precise game. Timing is everything in eCommerce and slow data feeds/correlations will lower the impact a company can have. Beyond that, one-stop shopping and ease of integration are trends that are spanning across all industries. Here at Pandera we understand this trend because we are helping lead it. Being full service, we have positioned ourselves in the analytic space under the same model of end to end facilitation. It is exciting to see large companies pivoting to compete and give the customers what they really want: seamless innovative integrations, Live data feeds, and big data capabilities. With the right plan, support, and partner success is predictable.
